Mortality Grey Area: After stealing Ernesto de la Cruz's guitar from his tomb on Da de los Muertos, Miguel ends up cursed, unable to interact with other humans, but able to travel to the Land of the Dead and interact with its deceased inhabitants. However, Miguel learns a very different story from his heritage than what he expected. It should be noted that they outnumber him so it's understandable for him to flee instead of fighting them all at once. A walkaround version of Ernesto debuted at the 2022 Oogie Boogie Bash Halloween event at Disney California Adventure. At this point, he is reviled by the dead and is given a final slipper to the head by Imelda.
