Winter Storm Watch Issued

The Nation Weather Service has issued a Winter Stor Watch for Clinton County. We expect this to be upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning as the system draws nearer to the area.

Current snowfall estimates are shown in the graphic on the left. These estimates will be revised as model data improves. The snowfall amount spectrum is compressed to a very narrow band, and any shift in storm track or surface low track will cause a significant change in snowfall amounts. Wind forecasts for this storm are 15-25 MPH sustained with gusts to 35. While this may not cause whiteout conditions, large drifting is a concern.

PRECIPITATION. THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW AND ICE
ACCUMULATIONS. LATEST ADJUSTMENT TO THE FORECAST INDICATES THE
WINTER SYSTEM HAS SLOWED AND COOLED SLIGHTLY...WHICH WILL
CONTRIBUTE TO HIGHER SNOW AND SLEET TOTALS...WHILE SHIFTING THE
PREFERRED AREA FOR FREEZING RAIN A LITTLE FARTHER SOUTH. STILL...
THE HEAVIEST SNOW IS GENERALLY EXPECTED NORTH OF HIGHWAY 36...
WITH THE HIGHEST ICE ACCUMULATIONS SOUTH OF MOUND CITY KANSAS TO
CLINTON...SEDALIA... BOONVILLE MISSOURI LINE. A MIXTURE OF SNOW
AND SLEET WILL OCCUR IN BETWEEN THESE AREAS.

* SNOW AND ICE ACCUMULATIONS...THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR
  SIGNIFICANT SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATIONS. THE HEAVIEST SNOW
  WILL GENERALLY FALL NORTH OF A LEAVENWORTH TO RICHMOND LINE...
  WHILE AREAS FARTHER SOUTH WILL RECEIVE MORE OF A COMBINATION
  OF SNOW AND SLEET.
